This is a special fun day for people to relax and have fun playing with their dogs. Everyone is invited, even if your dog has no experience chasing and catching discs.
The top three doggie costumes celebrating Christmas and the holiday season will be rewarded with a prize. We hope you decide to join in the fun.
The focus of this fun day will be upon developing improved retrieval skills (for your dog). World class disc dog handlers will be available to provide instruction and answer all your questions about how to encourage your dog to chase and retrieve discs, tennis balls, newspapers, your slippers, or whatever you want. So get your dog, jump in the car, and come join the fun.
Prior to starting the fun events instruction will be given about:
During the fun day events the instructors will provide personalised advice to each of the individual teams about how they can improve their dog's Canine Disc skills. After the Fun Day events, everyone is invited to stay on a BBQ dinner. Dogs are welcome to swim in the dam. This is the Club's final social event for the year and end of season awards will be presented.
The instructors for this Training Clinic will be Liz Buchanan, Kerri Lougheed, Damian Noud & Mim Ford.
Liz has enjoyed Canine Disc since 2006 with her 2 1/2 year old Border Collie, Ember. This team came second at their first State Championships in 2006 and won the Howl-a-ween competition in 2007. Since 2007, Liz has been the sectretary of BARK, as well as a judge and instructor. In addition, Liz has her Level 2 General Principles Coaching Qualification from the Australian Sports Commission.
Kerri has been with the Club since 2004, competing with her Australian Cattle dog Jo & Mistie an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle dog. Kerri & Jo won the 2006 Howl-O-Ween Disc Dog Championships.
Damian enjoyed three years competing in US Canine Disc competitions. Among their many successes Damian and his Border Collie surprised some of the World's top teams when they won the 2002 Indiana State Canine Disc Championships when Tigereye was only 15 months old. Since returning to Australia, Damian and Tigereye have won the Australian Canine Disc Team of the Year Award each year between 2004-2007. Damian is recognised worldwide as a canine disc expert.
Mim is a relatively new member of BARK, having joined in early 2007 with her husband John and their Border Collie Jessie. Mim is also heavily involved with the Gold Coast Dog Obedience and Training Club and is looking forward to Canine Disc Training with their new Aussie Shepherd puppy Bella.
Parking is free. Bathroom facilities are available at the site. Some shade is available. Wham-O Fastback Frisbee discs, club merchandise, drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
You need to bring a leash for your dog. If you can, please bring a crate or some means to tie out your dog so you can practice your throwing technique while your dog rests. You also need to bring a water bowl for your dog. Drinkable tap water will be available on-site.
Fastback Frisbee® discs will be on sale at this event. Fastback Frisbees are approved by the ACDA for
competition use in Australia. They were specifically designed for safe use with disc catching dogs and hover a
really long time.

Annual membership in the Brisbane and Region K9 Disc Club (BARK) is now closed until 2010 but everyone is welcome to attend.
The Australian Canine Disc Association (ACDA) is the sanctioning body for Canine Disc in Australia. Because this is an ACDA sanctioned event, all participants must agree to become ACDA Affiliate Members. Affiliate Membership in ACDA is free.
Also, all competitors at ACDA sanctioned events are charged a $2 ACDA levy which funds ACDA and the services it provides for its membership. However, BARK will pay your ACDA levy on your behalf out of the event fees you pay when you attend the event.
Because this is an ACDA sanctioned event, teams who participate in the practice competition after the training clinic will be eligible to count their competition rounds towards the Awards and Titles that will be issued by the Australian Canine Disc Association (ACDA).
These fun events are designed to practice certain elements of Canine Disc and be lots of fun!
There are three circle zones centred 10 metres, 15 metres and 25 metres away from the throwing line. Teams score 1 point each time the dog makes a catch with at least one paw on or inside the line of a marked circle zone with a 4 metre diameter, the centre of which is located 10 metres from the throwing line. Teams score 3 points each time the dog makes a catch with at least one paw on or inside the line of a marked circle zone with a 5 metre diameter, the centre of which is located 15 metres from the throwing line. Teams score 5 points each time the dog makes a catch with at least one paw on or inside the line of a marked circle zone with a 7 metre diameter, the centre of which is located 25 metres from the throwing line. The circle zones will not be in a straight line. The precise position of the circles will be revealed on the competition day. A team's first throw can only score in the 10 metre scoring zone (1 point). A team's second throw can only score in the 15 metre scoring zone (3 points). A team's third throw can only score in the 25 metre scoring zone (5 points). Subsequent throws can score in any of the three scoring zones. The time limit for this fun event is 60 seconds, in which teams can make as many throws and scoring catches as they like.
The objective of this event is to make 3 catch and retrieves beyond 10 metres within a 60 second time limit. The team that completes this objective in the fastest time wins. Time stops when the dog crosses the throwing line after making their third catch beyond 10 metres.
